BBC Radio 4 and the Artist

Radio 4 is a great source for inspiration in starting and working through the daily studio routine, be it the variety of programmes or the many different sounds including the familiar chimes of Big Ben at 6.00pm or midnight. It is this unique sound that for me has become the signature tune that symbolises a link from the past to the present.

The other great aspect about Radio 4 is that you can have access to news, current affairs and other programmes without being distracted from producing one's own work. You can create your own images from the news that is being presented and extend one's imagination still further.

The link between the present and the past is a theme that keeps recurring in my work and I have found from listening to Radio 4 on a regular basis that a similar link emerges particularly in the idea of its most famous programme signature tunes in particular the World Service and the chimes of Big Ben.

I will continue to be an avid Radio 4 listener.
